On Wednesday, June 2, members of the Providence Day lacrosse team, their coaches, and athletic director paid a visit to Levine Children’s Hospital with a special delivery – a $25,000 check to support clinical cancer research efforts at the hospital.
The team played hard during the season, not only to win their games and make it to state finals, but to fight cancer. They decided to honor their former head librarian (Dr. Kristina Brockmeier) who passed away from cancer, as well as a team captain’s brother who successfully battled cancer. They registered as “Team DocBrock” through drumSTRONG, one of the funding partners in the Carolinas Kids Cancer Research Coalition. This coalition supports clinical cancer research efforts at Levine Children’s Hospital.
The players got parents and local businesses to pledge their support (per ground ball, save, or goal), and by the end of the season, they had raised $25,000!
In addition to presenting the check to the LCH oncology team, the team visited with patients and enjoyed a tour of the hospital. Go Chargers!
