Ballantyne Lodge recently hosted a party for the Dreamcatcher Society to support the Levine’s Children’s Hospital (LCH). Guests noshed on a sampling of southern foods from shrimp and grits to pimento cheese ravioli. Smokey Bissell, of the Bissell Company, spoke of his commitment to the Dreamcatcher Society for the wonderful resources they offer our community.  The group also heard from the Page family, whose daughter, Rachel, has been treated for cancer at Levine Children’s Hospital.  The Page family expressed their gratitude for the Dreamcatcher Society and the positive experience they had at LCH.

Since its formation in 2006, the Dreamcatcher Society has provided funding for several resources at Levine Children’s Hospital. Their first project, the Children’s Hospital Area Transport System (CHATS), features bright, unique wagons and wheelchairs that are specifically designed for “child-friendly” clinical environments. In addition, they have funded a train-shaped robotic medicine dispenser, “Tug,” whose visits children anticipate each day. The Dreamcatchers’ most recent project involves endowing the Child Life program at Levine Children’s Hospital. One of the largest programs of its kind in the country, it serves the emotional needs of children and their families in the hospital.  There is never a charge for the service the Child Life staff provides, but their impact is priceless.

Ongoing support from the Dreamcatcher Society is truly making a tremendous impact on children’s healthcare in this region. The group, which has grown to include more than 210 members, hopes the community will “catch the dream” and join. Members enjoy the social aspects, family focus, and special networking opportunities all while fulfilling a philanthropic commitment to Levine Children’s Hospital.
