Dreamcatcher Society

dreamcatcher.jpgIn November 2004 Charlotte couple Mandy and Todd Houser, along with their friends Sherrard and Johnny Georgius, hosted a gathering for an energetic group interested in the health and well-being of children in Charlotte and the surrounding region.  This event launched the Dreamcatcher Society. Founding members joined the group, pledging $1,000 year for five years to underwrite programs and resources at the new hospital.

Since its inception, the Dreamcatcher Society has generated overwhelming support and interest.  A leadership committee including Morgan and Jay Everett and Jenn and Mark Lamarre has proven instrumental in helping the Houser and Georgius families to expand the Dreamcatcher Society to over 200 members.

To date, the Dreamcatcher Society has already funded two crucial projects at Levine Children's Hospital:

  • The Children’s Hospital Area Transport System (CHATS) , which features bright, unique wagons and wheelchairs that are specifically designed for “child-friendly” clinical environments.
  • The Indoor Robotic Transport System at Levine Children's Hospital is the first system of its kind to be implemented in the Eastern United States. This robotic train, complete with talking conductor, delivers medications to pediatric patients. The whimsical train proudly displays the Dreamcatcher Society logo as it brightens hospital stays for both children and their families.

The Dreamcatcher Society's current project is to endow the Child Life Program at Levine Children’s Hospital – one of the largest programs of its kind in the country. The talented Child Life team cares for the emotional needs of children and their families, educates them about the hospital experience and helps restore a sense of normalcy to their lives. There is never a bill for the Child Life services, but the benefits they provide are priceless.
